Against the backdrop of an uncertain economic situation and a global shortage of electronic components as a result of the AI boom, Nintendo is also expected to adjust host prices to Microsoft and Sony. Nagakawa Juntaro, Director General of Nagakawa, had previously stated that the company did not exclude the possibility of future price increases. “Any decision to change prices will be considered in a comprehensive manner, taking into account not only profitability but also other factors such as the platform’s user base, sales trends and the market environment. If the memory price increases are longer than expected, this may have an impact on hardware profitability. In such cases, we will examine the factors to determine the response strategy.” In its outlook for the current fiscal year as at 31 March 2027, Nintendo indicated that Switch 2 had been “good” since its sale in June 2025 and currently had a sales volume of 80 million. But Nintendo also acknowledges that the sales of Switch 2 are “more concentrated in the year of sale” than in the previous mainframe series.

Nintendo estimates that the sales of Switch 2 for the current fiscal year will decline, with a projected 16.5 million, or a 16.9 per cent decrease over the same period. Nintendo stated that the decline in sales reflected “the strong performance and price adjustments of the year of launch” and acknowledged that it was affected by the Switch 2 price hike. Nintendo also stressed: “Even so, we believe that this data represents a fairly good market recognition after two years after Switch 2 came on the market.” Nintendo expects that the number of games will increase from 48.71 million to 60 million.
