The new generation of smart glasses, called Meta Ray-Ban Display, sold at $799, with a right lens built-in screen that shows the visualization of text messages, video calls, map navigation routes, photographs, music control, camera digital viewers and Meta’s artificial intelligence services.
In an interview prior to the release of the product, Andrew Bosworth, Chief Technical Officer Meta, stated that the new glasses were the “first hard-core product” in the field.
The built-in screen is a key complement for smart glasses (which Meta now refers to as AI glasses), which allows some of the cell phone functions to be realized in the future.
The launch was an important step in the construction of a home-grown consumer-technology ecology by Meta, where Google was placed under the banners Apple and Alphabet. Since the introduction of the first virtual reality in 2016, Meta has been trying to attract users to move from mainstream platforms to home-grown products.
Bosworth says it feels like this product can keep you away from your phone. He added that the mobile phone would not disappear, but the glasses provided an easier way to access the most popular functions.

The new glasses introduce a new interactive system: except for the fact that it can still slide control over the frame, as in the past, the master interface is replaced by a new wristband (Meta Neal Band) to capture gestures.
In addition to applying interactive and AI questions and answers, new glasses support real-time subtitle functions (including translation). Later this year, new wristbands will be added to the “Airwriting”. The subsequent update will also allow eyeglasses to focus on current interlocutors and filter background noise.
A new generation of smart glasses with new wristbands will be available on 30 September, with two sizes and two colours of black and sand. The initial eyeglasses will support Facebook Messenge, WhatsApp, and music applications supported by Spotify; Instagram initially only supports private correspondence, and new Reels will be added during the year.
