According to French media reports, the French Government has taken action to temporarily ban Shein ‘ s website, as a result of the discovery of sex dolls and prohibited weapons for the sale of children at the Internet store of the electric giant. On Wednesday, the French Ministry of Finance announced that a ban procedure had been initiated, requiring SHEIN to prove within 48 hours that it had cleared illegal commodities, and the French Ministry of the Interior had filed with the court for closure of the site. The representative of SHEIN stated that the company had suspended third-party sales from French stations and was “seeking dialogue” with the French authorities and government agencies. This move coincided with the opening of the first permanent entity shop by SHEIN, BHV Marais, in downtown Paris. Although the forthcoming ban on the website did not affect the operation of the entity shop, there was a wave of queues and protests at the opening site.

As a fast-fashion giant Shein in Paris, Paris was shaken. French retailers and politicians continue to question the environmental impact of SHEIN and the labour rights of suppliers. The opening of doors has also heightened France’s concern about the impact of cheap goods from China on its economy. Shein, based in Singapore, relies on China for most of its commodities. Despite being known in the West for its own branded clothing, in recent years SHEIN has expanded into a third-party sales platform similar to the Amazon. Following the discovery of a problem doll on the SHEIN website last week, the French Consumer Supervisory Authority reported it to the prosecution and regulatory authorities, and on Wednesday it discovered information on the sale of weapons. The representative of SHEIN stated that child-modeling dolls had been sold on the platform by a third party seller since 18 October and that the company had immediately fallen off the shelf and was willing to provide the authorities with information on buyers in France. In addition to the suspension of French third-party sales, SHEIN indicated on Wednesday that it would review the list of commodities and strengthen platform controls.

In the early morning hours of Wednesday, the Conservative French Member of Parliament Antoine Vermorell-Marx indicated that she had reported to the prosecution that she had been found selling weapons, including finger tigers, on a platform that could not be sold without a special police permit. He stressed on platform X: “National instruments must not waver. ” France is currently considering the imposition of a tax of 2 euros (approximately US$ 2.3) on small parcels and the adoption of legislation prohibiting superfashion retailers from advertising and imposing new charges. The French Data Protection and Antimonopoly Regulatory Authority has issued a total of approximately 220 million euros this year against SHEIN for the use of cookies for irregularities and commercial fraud, and SHEIN is appealing against the penalties associated with cookies.
